Stone, when carved, reveals the magic and mystery of negative space, providing the transformative anamnesis for a landscape in the motion of its geologic rhythm. A gravestone is often viewed as nothing more than a monolithic and static fixture of the landscape. By definition, it is—hence the term monolith. However, I have come to understand them as active vessels infused with tremendously moving folklore and alchemy.

The dead are interconnected to us in an ecology of origin. The stones provide a vessel for their stories, chronicling the voices from one generation to the next. This is the heart of my work.
